The Australian Wildlife Health Centre
The AWHC is part of – a zoo and conservation centre in Victoria, Australia specializing in native Australian wildlife.
Set up in 2005, the wildlife health centre is staffed by a team of four vets and one veterinary resident, five nurses and one keeper.
The centre treats more than 2000 sick and injured native animals every year. The hospital team also research in areas of conservation and clinical wildlife medicine as well as wildlife rehabilitation.
The Conservation Ecology Centre
The CEC was started by and her husband Shayne Neal in 2000 as a place of refuge for Australian wildlife, offering safe sanctuary for orphaned and threatened animals, which are treated, cared for and then returned to the wild once rehabilitation has been successfully completed.
However, koalas remain at particular risk because of the perils of habitat decline. In the the on which koalas depend have recently succumbed to dieback and the CEC is leading the investigation into this phenomenon while also seeking to purchase and restore suitable land to ensure a safe haven for these animals in the future.
