Dicky Manchester is a touring end-of-the-pier magician, whose fantastic performing alter-ego is ‘Theophilus the Great Firework’. His wife Mildred is his partner in life and also in work – she performs with him as his Magician’s Assistant, ‘Frilly Milly’.
Dicky is a kind man, who saved Mildred from disrepute when she was a young chorus girl. For class reasons, and as an act of love, Dicky and Mildred remain a secret in the life of their only daughter.
