Luke is an aspiring writer working as a journalist for the local paper and living in Tynemouth with proud parents Robert and Joyce.
Disabled by Polio as a child, Luke won't be signing up but longs to tell the bigger stories of the war. When he befriends one of the female “scavengers” whilst reporting on the scheme, it soon becomes clear that the match is not a suitable one.
