The group is made up of seven women aged between 25 and 28, who came together organically two years ago. Nicole, founder and group member asked a couple of girls she met if they wanted to train with her and create some routines, and the group's story grew from that.

All the girls are from different backgrounds and come from different places around England. Nicola, who is originally from Preston, now lives in London and works as a dance teacher. She also created a company, which the girls are a part of.

Admitting that they don’t take themselves too seriously with their routines, they hold their hands up and say their routines aren’t the most technically challenging. "For us it is all about the enjoyment, we focus on energy and comedy in our dance routines," says Nicola.

The Queens were runners up in the ‘Hotstepper’ competition in 2018 and winners in 2019. “This is why I love it so much, everyone is so nice and you can just forget things for 3 hours a week and just have fun," Jess, a member of the group adds.

The group members can do a number of dance disciplines including contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap commercial, charleston, indy hop and musical theatre.
