Professor Reed Smith is the pathologist assigned to the cases that Gibson investigates.
She is Gibson’s contemporary but unlike Gibson she is married with two children.
As the first series progressed we saw a professional friendship and mutual admiration develop between the two women. In the second season that relationship continues to evolve as they both face their feelings of guilt and inadequacy.
