The Oxford vaccine is ideal for African countries due to its cheap cost and simple refrigeration needs, but research from South Africa questioned its effectiveness against a new virus variant found in the country. However, the World Health Organisation still recommends the use of the Oxford vaccine and more studies are ongoing to assess its effectiveness against severe disease.
