Gloucestershire spin-bowler Tom Smith has signed a one-year T20-only contract extension with the club to stay through the 2025 season.

The 37-year-old, who will retire from List A cricket, will also remain part of the coaching staff next season in what is his 13th year at the club.

Smith is Gloucestershire's second highest all-time T20 wicket-taker, after surpassing 150 last season.

He was part of the squad that lifted the Vitality Blast title for the first time this September although injury limited him to only six appearances because of injury through the campaign.

"Next season, my contract will see me retire from List A cricket and focus solely on T20 cricket as a player," Smith said.

"This will also allow me to continue my coaching development during the Metro Bank [One-Day Cup] block, providing a great opportunity for further growth in that area.

"Securing the Vitality Blast title was an unforgettable achievement and the chance to defend it next season is an exciting prospect that I鈥檓 eager to be involved in."

Head coach Mark Alleyne said he will provide another "resource" to the team in a coaching capacity to keep them progressing.

"His qualities in some key moments for us are undeniable and it鈥檚 great he is happy to go again for another season," Alleyne said.

鈥淭om鈥檚 impact on the coaching front is progressing nicely."
