Should Lowestoft be making more of Ness Point as a tourist attraction? What's the answer?

Ness Point is abit low as a tourist area. It would be nice to see a miniature Water Park consisting of pool with a fountain in the middle with varicose water activates to do in it. It could even be built on the present circular compass directions as the base. Even if that area does get flooded from time to time then it will not matter because; it is all water. A water park would make the area allot better place to visit.

i am hoping to visit ness point in the very near future. I hope some sort of landmark will be made..i reccently visited john'ogroats and the infamous signpost has to be taken down due to vandalism, and can only be erected upon request!so something sturdy would be good !

why dont you move the swan statue from station square to ness point and put a peto statue in station square

The sun on the sign needs rays, radiating from it and the lighthouses on the pierheads each side of it. Cardiff is not a good point of reference, rather St. Davids in Wales, which appears to be the furthest point West.

thanks chris lowestoft has so many statues with one of sir morton peto it would be great i think the statue of him should be called peto point and one of his arms on the statue could point to south lowestoft area which he created!

I agree with Connor Morton Peto took such a large role in making Lowestoft a sea side town and he should have a statue placed at ness point. There is nothing to commemorate this fabulous gentleman.

i used to live in Lowestoft and when i pop down i still go to ness Point 100% support the campaign .i take my 4 kids and they love going to the point

I used to live in Corton village when I was a child in the early sixties and Ness Point was certainly well signposted then. On the main road the Sparrows Nest Theatre had a sign and as a child I used to cycle down to Ness point which was certainly a lot more attractive then! I now live in Essex (sorry!) but hear your programme most mornings as the Suffolk signal is stronger than the Essex one and got interested in your campaign. Got for it, save Ness Point for posterity and not the gasometers and untidy industrial sites. Would be nice if it had a wall plaque rather than one on the ground, not everyone can lie down to have a piccie taken!

Yes lowestoft SHOULD make 'something' of Ness Point. If Lowestoft 'goes' to Nfk what of R.Sfk transmitter at Lowestoft !?

I 100% support the campaign to make Britains' most easterly point a tourist attraction. I recently visited John O'Groats and if that cold, stark, bleak end-of-the-world-place can attract coach loads of tourists then Ness Point should be like Brighton on a sunny day! And John O'Groats isn't even the most northerly point anyway! But it is no use looking to a local council to do anything but (maybe) put up a sign or two. What is needed is private investment to add facilities to make it worthwhile going there for families and pensioners alike.

I do honestly thing there should be nmore about lowestofts ness point... I grew up in lowestoft and then moved further down the coast and it is all such a wonderful place, very pretty, and definatly alot of things for tourists to explore so there shouldn't be a problem. However when i go out of suffolk, or abroad and somebody asks me where I am from they don't know where i am talking about, even if I say that it is the most easterly point in england.

A web site called geograph tries to hold photos, sent in by the public, of every part of the UK's geography, notable or not. There is no photo of Ness Point. Enough said?I tried to add one yesterday, before I knew about this campaign, but could not find my old shots. They were taken on a horrid dull day anyway. I suggest a Lowestoft resident remedies this ASAP.Lots of other notable parts of Lowestoft need documenting too.

Ness Point? It is marked on the map, page 9 of the A-Z county map of Suffolk, sadly its in the margin partially hidden by a grid number. That would indicate that it is not part of Lowestoft, a mistake by the map makers?Ever since the fishing fleet was taken from Lowestoft? It has been going rapidly down hill, with only the 'Air and Sea festivals' and 'Radio Suffolk' not giving up the ghost. As for the council's attitude. Shame on You.This is from the viewpoint of someone who has only just moved to the town but has been a regualar visitor for over 10 years.

George Hawes is like all councillors - whichever district council you are under - are complete ditherers and when they do make a decision it's usually a disaster (just look at the new Cattle Market development in Bury!!- not every new development can boast having it's own 'mother ship'(namely the Debenhams new store)). Ness Point needs to be promoted far more by the tourist office and local newspapers and in doing that it will bring more tourism/money into Lowestoft. Why not rename Gasworks Road Ness Point Way. Good work Mark and crew - keep the campaign up until Waveney do something please, but it may take years!!

Listening to George Hawes yesterday the leader of the council I was "gobsmacked". If he's the leader what's the rest of them like.Well done Mark Murphy for a good old Jeremy Paxman type interview.You didn't let him off the hook, and his half hearted reply was a disgrace.Let's hope somebody can come up with some good idea's including a name change. Why Ness point it may just as easily be called "Gasworks Groin" Let's hope your campaign helps.

The only sensible point was made by Bob Blizzard who says the town should promote it and have a heritage centre, or such like, in a more attractive part of the beach. You can't make a silk purse etc.It is not necessary to stand on the most easterly point. Mark is getting his wires crossed. As we know, as far as Lands End and John O'Groats go are irrelevent to cardinal points, but Mark seems to think they are important because of peoples conception?? Why can't people conceive a more attractive part of Lowestoft?Both the Lizard and Dunnett Head are more extremeby some considerable distance.I've been to both (and Arnamurchan for that matter)and theres nothing there. They are not very accessible and like Ness Point, I like them just the way they are.Find somewhere else to send the tourists to have their pictures taken.

Of course Lowestoft should be making more of Ness Point as a tourist attraction,but if I remember rightly 'they' have been talking about it for at least the past 8 years.I do hope Mark and crew can get things done sooner.

Yes, Ness point needs to be used as a regenaration project. Sadly Lowestoft is slowly dieing. We have the most easterly railway station aswell, but sadly the council wants to move it. Radio suffolk needs to act now for lowestoft as it could become the most easterly mess up. Back to ness point yes lets make it a place where vistors want to find.

At least Lowestoft Ness Point is free. To park at Land's End it's 拢3.00 and for a typical family of 4 it will cost 拢10 to enter.

yes tourists should be made more aware of ness point if there visiting lowestoft allow it could do with a new monument to mark it the old dial has cracks in it and you have to get right close to see the plac and at the top of ness point theres this work of art but has grefettey on it.

My family and I have just returned from holidaying in Pakefield. My Mum heard your campaign and challenged us to find Ness Point. My daughter and I only saw a mention of it when we reached the very end of the London Road North. We were then able to follow the blue footpath signs from Christ Church. It is certainly a most unattractive area to walk through and I agree more could be made of it. Let's hope your campaign helps put Lowestoft on the map as we found it a good place to holiday.

yes I have said for years that, being the most easterly town, and not promoting it and not making ness point a great place to see has been a very big problem, its time to do some thing about it.
