A record number of singers auditioned to take part in the world's greatest singing competition in 2007.
The final 25 singers were selected from more than 1,000 who applied to take part. Find out who the singers were.
A record 677 singers from 64 counties took part in auditions held in 44 locations worldwide.
The competition was open to singers aged 18-36 on 1 June 2007, at the start of their careers. They had to demonstrate high levels of vocal talent, musicianship and communication skills.
The 25 finalists travelled to Cardiff in June 2007 to sing before a panel of distinguished jurors and equally discerning audiences. See the competition dates.
Main competition
The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk, and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, conducted by Carlo Rizzi, accompanied the competitors in the five preliminary round concerts. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ National Orchestra of Wales accompanied competitors in the final.
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Cardiff Singer of the World Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize
The 25 contestants were also eligible to compete for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Cardiff Singer of the World Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize. The four preliminary round concerts were held at the New Theatre, Cardiff, and the final at St David's Hall.
The official accompanists were Simon Lepper, Phillip Thomas and LlÅ·r Williams.
Master classes
Some of the competitors took part in master classes with legendary performers such as Brigitte Fassbaender and Håkan Hagegård.
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Cardiff Singer of the World 2007 was organised by ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Cymru Wales in association with Welsh National Opera and the City and County of Cardiff.
