Juhan Tralla was born in Tallinn, Estonia, and graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a violinist in 1997. During 1998-2002 he studied singing at the Universität für Musik, Vienna.
Since 2000 he has been a soloist at the Vienna Volksoper, where roles include Marquis von Chateauneuf Zar und Zimmermann, Alfred Die Fledermaus, Stanislaus Der Vogelhändler, and Pio La Generala.
Since 2003 he has been engaged at the Estonian National Opera, the Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, and the Städtische Bühnen Münster. Singing roles have included Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), title role (Idomeneo), Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), title role (Otello), Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Rodolfo (La Bohème) and Alfredo (La Traviata).
As a concert singer, Juhan Tralla has worked with the Niederösterreichische Tonkünstlerorkester, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, and many others.
His repertoire includes Bach's B minor Mass, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's The Creation, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Verdi's Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Janácek's Das ewige Evangelium.
In 2003, he won the Grand Prix at the Sabin Dragoi Competition in Timisoara, Romania.
