Whilst Dylan and Owain watch a disaster movie, Ada the science app interrupts. Through discussing earthquakes Ada explains the difference between primary and secondary waves; using both P waves and S waves to explain how scientists calculate the epicentre of an earthquake.

Use a glass bowl filled with tomato soup and cut outs of the continents to show how they would move apart during an earthquake. Describe the structure of the Earth. After watching the animation, describe how the detection of P and S waves assisted the discovery of Earth’s structure. Use the animation and a travel-time graph to calculate the distance to an Earthquake.
