Ten things from this week #10

Being asked, in my third week as Digital Content Manager of About The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, to author Editor ’s usual Ten Things blog felt like quite a daunting task: big boots to fill. Ìý

But then the week got going, my notebook filled with scribbles and one theme emerged: moving. So here are my ten moving-related things from around the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳:

1. It was announced this week that will be moving in (taking up the post of Director-General) in March 2013.ÌýÌý

2. My team moved offices on Monday – not far mind you, from White City to near-by Broadcast Centre. The guardian of our lockers is an ethereal blue sheep who’s legless (?)

3. In addition to moving offices we are now ‘hot desking’ – so every day we are meant to sit in a different place in our area. On day two the temptation to sit in the safety of the same seat was immense, but I’ve braved new chairs each day so far and got to sit with different colleagues, which is proving very exciting. You can’t underestimate the usefulness of having the people who publicise all the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s brilliant content within arms’ reach and their conversations within hearing distance…

4. Incidentally, if you are thinking of moving (jobs) there’s good advice available on how to prepare for your interview at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ (or indeed anywhere) from Annabel Dixon, Head of Resourcing at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in this .

5. Now to a bunch of people who are much better at ‘moving’ than me… were announced this week and thanks to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s fantastic coverage I actually know who these talented folk are (most years I’m completely in the dark).Ìý

6. On a food note – which will most likely feature in all my posts – the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Canteen curry is really something to crow about. It’s the highlight of the week and brightens up hump-day Wednesday coming as it does with dal, rice, a poppadum and a naan – this week’s treat was channa masala (if you are wondering how this links to my theme, consider the lentils…)

7. I was moved to jump up and down by the announced this week and published by our hard-working colleagues on the Media Centre website Ben and Matt. There’s lots to look forward to in between mulled wine, turkey sandwiches and belt loosening, including based on the wonderful book of the same name (if last year’s Gruffalo by the same people is anything to go by it’ll be wonderful) and a new drama about Hitchcock called

Room On The Broom

On radio I’m nervous and excited to see what Johnny Vegas will do with my favourite childhood book, Enid Blyton’s , which he directs and stars in (on Radio 4, Christmas Eve) – don’t let me down Johnny.

8. presenters were moving around the country this week – well back to their hometowns - to look at today’s issues in the places they grew up, Peter Allen was in Basildon, Nicky Campbell in Edinburgh, Richard Bacon went to Mansfield, Stephen Nolan to Belfast and Dotun Adebayo to Tottenham.Ìý

9. Today, the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ officially hands over the keys to , the iconic building that was home to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service from 1940, when it was bombed out of its previous Oxford Street abode, until July this year. I can’t pretend I’m not a bit sad about this, as on my infrequent visits to the building I was inspired by its beautiful art deco architecture – the lifts are particularly striking (see the picture below taken by )- and awed by its history.Ìý

10.Ìý Finally, although I know it doesn’t really count as this week, it’s worth saying how moved I was by the British public who donated an incredible £26,757,446 to on the night – an all-time record. Reassuringly cheering as we enter the season of goodwill.
