The Ordinary Boys - 'I Luv U'
Oh PLEASE. How many 'ironic' quote marks can you put around a bloody SONG, PRESTON? You're too busy trying to second guess what the cool kids will pick out as the lamest part of this song - and for the record, it's your 'sincere face' in the video - that you've forgotten that the sole purpose of a love song is to make the listener feel loved. That's it.
And, as with running a race, or learning how to fly an aeroplane, not-quite achieving what you set out to achieve is much worse than not trying at all. It's a shame, but that's human nature for you.
So despite the fact that this is nearly a heartfelt love song, with nearly clever lyrics about how hard it is to write an actually heartfelt love song with actually clever lyrics (OW MY BRAIN!), what comes across more than anything else is that it's just a bloody irritating song which over-uses the word 'cliche' (oh! the irony) and trips over itself before it even gets fully started.
Hell, the title's a dead giveaway. Preston can't even get it together to spell 'I Love You' properly, it has to be written in cutesy-pie fashion, like it's an observation of how lesser beings express their true love. That's voyeuristic, isn't it? And it's certainly not honest.
Which is a shame, because musically and melodically, this is really pretty, and without all the gubbins above, could even be the Valentine soundtrack the band clearly want it to be, but oh no, they had to spoil it by being CLEVER. How stupid.
