Martin Simpson on Music, Motorways and Banjos

writes:

My head is spinning currently from the ongoing combination of gigs and working on the
new album, which by the way will be called True Stories.

I've always had pre-conceptions of the sounds I want to make, the ghosts of records
not yet made, and this one sounds better than I dreamed!

It's wonderful to listen to what great players do to the music, and everyone
involved has been perfect.

I do a lot of motorway listening and there is a lot of motorway to be covered right now. Terry, my road manager and I, will be heading off on Saturday morning and back late Monday night after three gigs.

I'm going to see the banjo maker Barry Murphy in Sussex region, he built me the Bacon style banjo I'm using on gigs, and he's going to do some work on my
banjos. Barry and his wife Mary are lovely people and deeply into old-timey
music, I love that.
