Graham Smith | 17:43 UK time, Saturday, 13 November 2010

Bill Jenkin has resigned as the Cornwall councillor for Cambone North. He won the seat as a Conservative in 2009. The by-election is unlikely to be held until the New Year.

This will be an interesting election, all parties will throw their all at it, hoping to make a wider point about their parties fortunes and support. Perhaps adding to this is the fact that this thursday this very same area on the town council will have its election contested by Mebyon Kernow, the Conservatives and Labour.
Will the Lib Dems fail to stand again for the unitary election? Are they compelled to give way to their coaliton partners? and will the town election indicate the result of the unitary?

And maybe Kevin Lavery will sort out the non-residents from the residents on the electoral roll and chuck out and even maybe prosecute those not entitled to vote under current UK Electoral Law to ensure a proper and democratic election (first ever in Cornwall & Scilly?) ?
Mr Smith, how is THAT letter coming along? Perhaps you'll nominate it for this Guinness Book of Records Award:
'The Letter That Took A Public Servant The Longest To Compose And Send On Instructions From An Elected Body Ever In The Entire History Of Mankind, Democracy, The Whole Wide World And The Known History Of The Universe' ?
