SB1!?
I'm really hoping that this is a reference to a news story I haven't yet heard. Either that or Eddie's gone all Buffy on us.
Ah, now, was that wise? After all you depend upon them to be nice to you when the scanner doesn't work for you ...
Eddie, sit down and chill. Or why not join the rest of us on the beach on Day One?
It seems, however unlikely, that Eddie may have embarked on a career as a supermodel.
Ed,
Hou's aw wi ye?
Ye needna fash yer thoum. Lat that flee stick til the waw.
See ye efter - cheerio the nou.
Yeah, come on in Eddie the waters lovely and all your friends are there! I got some wine:o)
*Hic*
Oh dear Eddie... Fisticuffs before eleven am? That doesn't bode well for the rest of the day, does it?!?
Have you all kissed and made up yet?
Mrs Trellis - How was the 'drive - in' thsi morning ?
And as for Eddie, it's quite normal in Newsrooms, often referred to as 'doing a Batesey' or Littlejohn' - I still have a scar from having a wastepaper bin chucked at me (not at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ I should add) but I probably deserved it.
All makes for good radio when the talents get riled up :-)
Now Eddie's current entry presents an interesting perspective re this blog .... If he's using the blog as a means to apologise to his colleagues, does this mean that all his colleagues are bloggers?
Just how many of us work for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳? Hands up now ....
And how many - like me - are outsiders?
...a misunderstanding you say Eddie. Well, I have to admit, it's very easy to be misunderstood. And, it seems, even the American President, on occassion, has that problem. Especially when President George W Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney dined at a Washington restaurant.
The waitress approached their table to take their order.
She is young and very attractive.
She asks Cheney what he’d like, and he replies: "I'll have the heart-healthy salad."
"Very good, Sir," she replies, and turning to Bush she asks, "And what would you like, Mr President?"
Bush looks at the Menu and turning to her answers: "How about a quickie?"
Taken aback, the waitress slaps his face and says: "I'm shocked and disappointed in you Mr President! I thought your administration was committed to high principles and morality. I have to say, I'm sorry now that I voted for you."
And, with that, the waitress departed in a huff...
Cheney leans over to Bush, and says: "Mr President, I believe that's pronounced Quiche."
Serene blog.
Big Sister (9),
Good point. Why hasn't Manveen frogged?
Come on, Manveen, Lissa, the beach is lovely on Day One, you don't want to be looking out to overcast skys now.
Let's be inclusive, where's Vicky, Tilly and Sophie - bet they would like the sea air.
Okay, Mr. Mair, I imagine that this strand is trying (subtley) to suggest that you are completely innocent re the newsletter issue. But you really must stop taking it out on others. The Bloggers are a (relatively) patient lot and will tolerate a good deal, so no need to go beating your colleagues up.
Truly.
What's he on about at number 4?
Jonnie (8)
My drive in was fine this morning, thank you for asking. The only problem was that it was the drive in and not the drive home *sigh*.
Still, at least I don't get things thrown at me (although a bone would be nice occasionally)
Ahhh found my sun hat at last. Off to the beach now to feel sand between my toes.
What is going on here? I have previously added a couple of comments, both earlier than some I can see currently. The first is yet to appear, but the second was visible briefly but has now disappeared. Dear Lissa, please fix this...
The first person to spot one of the above wins an all expenses paid trip to where they are right now.
Mrs Trellis, why thank you for your kind comments yesterday.
Are you of the one of Aberystwyth?
Woof woof Arhoo.
(17) Dr, just a thought but I wonder, did you remember, as the author, to approve your missing comments? Under "Post a comment" below it says "Comments are moderated, and will not appear on this weblog until the author has approved them"
Vuk (18)
No, I'm from a much stranger part of North Wales!
I approve of everything I write - apart from the stuff that’s rubbish.
P.S. Eric has broken this blog.
Eddie,
You've * it up!
I think it's because of all the fisticuffs earlier. Lissa has decided to take her revenge by locking Eddies' last blog. Shame we can't see the postcards...
Dr H,
Yes, I just noticed that, since I've been self-exiled from the beach...I managed to get to the next page by judicious number of backs in the browser, nothing's changed.
Wow, Vuk, prompted by the other comment, I also popped over for a gander - and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Thank you.
I think that's pretty much the limit of my contribution to today.
Hey, where's the postcard page without the postcards gone? Just because you screwed it up, I don't think you can just whip it off...
Chris Evans (Radio Two 5pm). His blog's working like clockwork.
Knackered blog!
Mrs Trellis (20), I'm sorry, I haven't a clue, my brain fails to engage... not the Llyn!?
Arhoo.
Today's postcards are rubbish.
All they have is a little red X inside a wee box.
...Did you know that 87.6% of statistics are made up?
Aaaah!
I've been sitting here cursing static flickers.....
How arch this man is, but to what end?
The postcards broke it!
"the postcards broke it!". That's on par with "It wasn't me...it was him" and "it came of in my hand chief" or "well, it was OK when I last used it so it must have been somebody after me who broke it".
Eddie? Was it the postcards that broke it or did you touch something that you were not supposed to? Listen, You won't be in trouble but you must be honest and that way we can avoid this happening again. This is for your own good.
You know we love you and your welfare and safety are our number one concern.
Good grief, Sir Eric - not mine I hope?
Yeah, yeah. It was the postcards. We believe you.
Thought I'd wander into the parrallel universe that is the PM blog for a bit of R&R. I must be more spaced out that usual as I actually understood some of the comments. Please can someone call a doctor.
Complain about this comment.
Fifi (31)
Not only are 87.6% of statistics made up but 5/4ths of people can't do fractions.
I hadn't noticed the absence of postcards, but the COUNTER has gone. Obviously the Beeb's counter-fixing techie was so upset at being hit by a flying WPB that (s)he's decided to pull it out altogether. Maybe a few days on the workbench will fix it...
Fearless,
I hope that you will enjoy a pleasant evening.
Oh, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie. *sigh* Did they let you loose on the blog un-accompanied? Wasn't Lissa there to hold your hand? I also see from Paddys' BH newsletter that you've broken the printer as well??? I hate to say it, but it might be best leaving this to the grown-ups...
Eddie dear,
I don't mean to nag but, I still have not received my newsletter today. I know you must be run off you feet what with one thing and another. It's just that I had such high hopes after one popped through yesterday.
Be a sweetie and have a look in the pipes could you.
Thanks
All,
If you want me I will be at the beach. FFred and I were planning to go for a stroll through the dunes and given the problems in October I think this is a perfectly splendid idea.
Joe - you'd know about this. Does CE turn up on a regular basis to do his programmes (these days)
In connection with nothing at all I would like to share the following verse.
As I awoke one morning
When all good things are born
A robin perched upon my sill
To greet the coming dawn
So gay and young and fragile
So sweetly it did sing
Such thoughts of joy and happiness
Into my heart did spring
I calmly smiled at the robin's song
And leaning from my bed
I gently closed the window
And crushed his little head.
Hey, jonnie, man,
Like, how should I know?
You must have confused me with someone who gives a ****.
As Kimi said last Sunday.
Dig you later, man.
Okay, I'm logging off now. Talk to you all later!
Hi jonnie (45)?
Yip - Mr Evans (Radio Two 5pm) works very hard these days. In a caring sharing sort of way. His blog works, his newsletter works, his radio programme works, his voice works (no annoying squeaky bits on air).
He can also tell the difference between Sir Menzies and Sir Malcolm, when he's interviewing them, has he so often does these days. Where else do you think 'Ming' gets all his Arctic Monkey stuff from? And Mr Evans has only got one, yes that's ONE, programme editor to hold the whole thing together. Oh yes, I could go on, so I will.
Chris (Radio Two 5PM) I think is a consumate professional who's love of his work allows him to install in him performance and depth, vitality and emotion which is infectious to his vast radio audiences, he's got, oh at least 64% of the 5pm - 6pm market share, you know. He has a quick and sometimes cynical humour that flows easily through his show. He's just brilliant. Top geezer is Chris! You can catch him (regularly) on Radio Two at 5pm. See you on the ice.
And yes his newsletter did turn up, as usual without any fuss.
Silly me -- I got you confused with the other Joe. The one that's on this thread
I meant Joe Palooka,
But as you say 'Are we bovvered'
Oh and thanks to whoever removed my last post where I'd left my e-mail address on it. Very efficient service :-)
That chap from PM - Eric Muir -
Posted more blogs today - now there's fewer!
The Newsletter's lacking
Again - shall we sack him?
Damn right, if he can't find the cure!!
Hah! The "Postcards broke it!" blog. I remember this well. Definitely a classic.
So, who else has jumped back here to the elysian days of October '06? It's a lot calmer than June '07!
I see Joe Palooka was still pimping Chris Evans' show & newsletter. Funny how he went quiet after Chris moved to presenting The Moral Maze on R4. *That* blog went horribly wrong, didn't it?
The weather's much nicer back here. Cool with proper rain instead of a three-month drought.
Come on everybody! Swap those shorts and overpriced bottles of water for raincoats and a nice hot cup of non-proprietary beef drink.
So "effing" is allowed on PM
But not in the House re PM
George Osborne withdrew
His remark, but he knew
It would make the headlines on PM
Joe (49)
..so, why do you bother coming in here then? If I were as all-round happy somewhere else as you are with Mr E, I would just stay there getting happier and happier.
Sorry, a subjunctive ('if I were') slipped in there. Can't help it. Words Bird-itis.
I must say, from what little I've heard of Chris Evans lately, he's a lot more engaging than he used to be.
But I wouldn't swap him for Sir Eric. Even though I generally only lust after taller men.... and I have an impression that neither of them qualifies.
Besides which, current affairs is much sexier than pure entertainment. Eric combines both.
Shall I stop drooling now? It's starting to annoy me too.......
Home again, home again, jiggardy jig.
A much better journey today and had the best show for ages to listen to. Eddie, it was marvelous from start to finish. Esp the General who couldn't answer simple questions because he "didn't have any facts" and the brilliant F word piece. Never thought I would hear anybody say F and C on pm. Bravo to all. Now, just the blog and the newsletter to fix...
Hi there!
Just popped in for a quick word before settling down for the night.
We're doing awfully well in August - over 100 extra postings in just two days!
Are we going for a record? As well as going for a swim?
Eddie, you're missing all the fun.
Re Joe (45)
Thanks, you make me laugh :-)
bit like Whisht and silver-fox do,
I'm sure CE he has a good show, I might try a 'listen again' one day. Although I personally liked the more laid back Johnny Walker approach.
We are very lucky in this country that our National Public service broadcster, namely the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, offers us such diversity of programnming, even without DAB, and I tend to dip in and out of them all and adore the lovely Victoria Derbyshire on Five Live. A lot of foreigners that visit seem to be confused between what the four FM Networks are meant to carry, expecting that Radio 1 would be the main speech based one.
P'raps it would have been better to brand the Networks with proper names, a bit like it used to be with Home Service, Light programme, and who in those bygone days decided to call the classical network, the third programme ? Very original!!
Now for some reason I can never make a link work, can someone tell me what I have to do, but have just been alerted to this one so for those of you who want to see a lady squashing grapes - as was live on Fox News - you'll have to copy and paste :-
Hey Mrs T, sounded like you had an easier journey tonight. Relax now, nice hot bath to get all the sand out of your toes, and the Tequila :-)
BigSister, I hade to come back, got a bit chilly, and too dark to take a walk on the Dunes, but all in all nice to get out and have a quick dip. Are we all meeting up again in August tomorrow ?
Can some one let me know in October ?
Fifi (54)
But you're not suggesting that Eric isn't 'Pure entertainment' I trust ;-)
Hi jonnie,
The cork just went pop and I am a happy bunny.
I will be on the beach tomorrow morning and will see you there. Do you need me to bring anything or shall we simply "go with the flow".
I'm going to flit between the two this evening in the hope a party starts (I LOVE to party)
x
No newsletter and it's 19:55 ish.
I think that Patricia has infiltrated the Beeb and juggled the 1s and 0s of the PM binary world.
Not only that - I still have to think of a birthday present for my 13yr old daughter as I didn't win the Gordon Brown book, the signed newsletter (might have arrived in time for her wedding), or any other PM giveaways....
Hi all. Like Mrs T, I've also got home safely now but it's not so nice now it's so dark. I don't like driving in the dark.
Forgot to ask how Mrs T's dinner party went last night - recipes always welcome.
This blog is going to sound more and more like Woman's Hour unless Eddie can get his act together and give us some input, either by newsletter or blog. We're all hanging around expectantly, Eddie - so what's the news? Have you found the blocked pipe/faulty fuse yet? My guess is that you spilled your coffee all over your keyboard.
I think we should be told.
Off now to spill my wine down my throat.
Mrs T, I wished you'd mentioned the 'party earlier' -- off out for a meal, however I'll be back around 23:30 so I may knock on the door.
I've got an old windbreak (xcuse the xpression) which I'll pack away but just in case it disintegrates could you briing a spare along with you.
Oh and a Getto blaster (with Radio) so we can dip in to Eric at five - probably literally on the ice!
...Now I'm back, and yet almost no posts? Has the frog gone down completely, or am I the only one without a life tonight?
I would say I'm in exile from the beach, but no-one seems to be there either!
Anyone wants me, try my blog.
BTW, I noticed the BH newsletter was not slow in turning up today, so I don't think we can blaim it as being a R4 problem!
Joe Palooka - 49 - You know, fellow froggers, that I really hate having to do this these days, but your (Joe) postings are just so smug that they are smug enough to have come from CE himself! If that be so, then who would like to take responsibility for the following execrable sentence?
"Chris (Radio Two 5PM) I think is a consumate professional who's love of his work allows him to install in him performance and depth, vitality and emotion which is infectious to his vast radio audiences, he's got, oh at least 64% of the 5pm - 6pm market share, you know."
consumate - sb consummate
who's - sb whose
install - did you mean instil?
...allows him to install in him performance and depth.... - pardon, sorry, what's this all about?
That hurt me, probably more than it hurt you, I've fallen off the wagon.....thump.
Btw, I wonder how Fearless is getting on? Did anyone pop along to The Rose Revived to check what he's wearing?
Deepthought ! how wonderful!
sorry that I have been so remiss with the blog (will post this here and on the beach) I have been drinking and watching withnail & I.
Sara. Dinner went quite well. I made a simple Thai dish of chicken in coconut cream and lime leaves (with a touch of lemon grass and coconut)
a chicken broth rice and then home made nahn bread (apple and raisin) and then a light prawn curry.
Jonnie: Will see you on the beach at 8. Will be tucked up by the time you get in. Hope you had a lovely time (I'm quite jealous)
xx
Valery (65) - I've just posted a similarly plaintive cry on another thread, and if I was perfect I'd remember which one.
But I'm not and I don't.
I do hope FFred is all right and that his date didn't turn out to be a heart surgeon wearing tasselled loafers. The one I met via an online dating agency frightened me to death.
xx
LadyPen
Spooky, Lady P, I've just left you a note elsewhere! Are we the only ones about tonight then?
PS I have no useful comments whatsoever to make about today's news. It (is 'news' singular or plural?) all passed me by while I was busy doing other things.
Valery (68) I think we must be. Am off to search for aforementioned note. Any clooz as to where it might be????
Valery (68) - about the business plan. Am awaiting template from newly acquired useful contact and am about to become highly desirable apparently. Am not sure (almost certain, actually) that the EricBlog is the right forum to exchange details . . .
Seems quiet here tonight. Where is everyone?
No, lady p, I didn't mean to pry. It's just that BP's are my field at the moment (in a wordsmith capacity), so I homed in on it. All the best with yours, and the business too of course!
Hi Fearless - how did it go?
Lady P and VP,
...I told you where I would be tonight, since the beach was out of bounds to me (too many double entendres) and there was no-one else!....
Now, were is the link to the webcam for the Rose revived, and FF's assignation?
FFred . . . am here :-)
Thank you ValeryP. Prying was the last thing I saw you as doing so don't worry.
Sorry, Deep Thought (and I believe that is the correct spelling of your name...) I managed to persuade the barman at the Rose Revived to disconnect the webcam, I'm afraid. Sorry if I disrupted your evenings' fun! I'm going back to August for a glass of wine before turning in....
Right. So it's just me and ValeryP and FFred and The ArtistFormerlyKnown as JohnW then . . .
Was she wearing tasselled loafers and claiming to be a heart surgeon, FFred?
Hi All,....
I'm a bit tired at the mo, and I have a fairly early start in the morning (8:30 appointment) but I can say things seemed fairly promising, and we're going to try and arrange to meet up again soon. When I get a chance tomorrow, I'll frog more about it on the beach, if that's okay?
*yawn* Time for me to go to bed, I think... g'night all!
Could this be the latest comment ever?
Mrs T, Withnail and I is an excellent film.
Good choice.
Wolf
Hello Everyone,
I'm very late today and I have to get up really early so I'm just popping in for a quick one. Looks like I missed a very frustrating day anyway.
Fearless, we would like a full report in the morning purrlease!
I think I'll have a qucik tipple on the beach then it's sleep-time :)
Wolf - no: there have been many in the wee hours.
I like that film too.
I had three separate posts blocked on this thread during Thursday. Will someone please overthrow our rulers here.
I am so 'relaxed' I can barely type any more .. I .. am .. typing.. slowly .. as .. I .. know .. you ..can't ..read .. fast...
I just want to be the latest on here.
Hah!
Fifi . . .you lost :-)
Yep - you win!
Well sorry to disappoint you all! Dr Hackenbush, Wolf, Perry and the lovely Fifi (don't be too harsh on Joe Palooka) BUT I am the winner!!
I am just about to submut my post and the clock says 02:55:07 (Rugby controlled of course)
I never received my Walnut Whip from Big Sis, Was duped out of a rightful prize from Ed (all down to Stu posting after the newsletter had been sent!!)
I AM the last post! and therefore deserve something (apart from a thumping headache in the morning)
Goodness knows what I'll look like on the August beach tomorrow Mrs T !
However, since you all ask I did have a nice night and and apologies for not making it to last
nights August bash.
If anyone dares to send another comment before 05:00 am, I promise never to log on in a slightly tipsy mood again,
xxx
and an extra special one for Lee Vitout !! ( and Mrs T) xx
Just Checking Dr Hackenbush!
So Sooooooorrryyyy Fifi :::::-----))))))
I'll be so scared to log on in the morning :-(((
Good morning everyone.
My email was down yesterday, I disconnected everything, prayed (or whatever atheists do, anyway, hoped maybe) and this morning back to normal.
So I have spent some time catching up.
I assumed that no counter means giving up on it. Seemed sensible to me as it was rarely accurate.
The sky is brightening, I must get going, I have the family coming to stay!
Morning all,
I'm hoping this post is accepted. When I tried to post to August last night it bounced me and said I had been posting too often even though it was hours since the previous one - I know because I wasn't here.
At least I'm assuming we don't have an impersonation problem and someone thought I was here. I do hope not since the bouncing seems to be the result of insulting and inappropriate postings by some.
How sad.
Morning all,
I'm off to the beach again so will see you all there although I don't expect to see jonnie until at least lunch time after such a late night.
FF I hope your date went well I shall not pry but am curious :o)
Eddie, I still have not had my news letter from yesterday (although it would be superfluous now). Can we expect one today or would that be too much to ask for?
See you on the beach
Jonnie:
I hang my head in shame at your mention of no-show WWhip.
I still have to locate one - and I've been looking in every sweetie shop I've passed since said pledge to send.
I will keep trying, so don't lose hope. These WWhips appear to be quite elusive these days.
Back to the beach .....
No, I didn't get a newsletter either .... And Eddie is staying strangely silent now.
I do hope he is okay and hasn't got the strop with all of us, or with the rest of his lovely team.
My husband always gets terribly upset and frantic when the 'new technology' (i.e. the fax, computer, scanner, etc.) don't 'work' (usually because he's pressed the wrong buttons, or in the wrong sequence) and ends up in a very, very bad mood. I find it hard to think Eddie would be like this .......
Hi all! Very strange and sleepy blog, this one. Am curious to know how Mrs T finds the time to drive to and from work, cook fantastic meals and spend all day lounging around on the beach.
Can't help feeling we're all waiting for something to happen.
Work calls (or rather shouts at me and thumps me in the back!). See you all later. FF - was Rose revived?
By the way, Lady P, don't give up on the web dating thing. My daughter met her absolutely lovely husband on one.
Sara, yes I agree, a very sleepy blog and still no sign of its master today. Curiouser and curiouser.
As for how I manage to fit it all in its simple really: I have no social life outside of this blog.
FF which site did you use, last time I tried I had the sum total of 0 offers/replies ;o(
Also somthing strange happening on the beach today. I have tried to post twice this morning and none of them have appeared. Odd eh?
Jonnie (88) - As far as I work out, you were the competition winner the other day. I don’t remember seeing a closer answer.
Now, why haven’t you described the other three of us as lovely?
Glad to see the back of the dodgy counter.
And relieved that Eddie Meldrew hasn't decided to bin the blog as well, just because some features weren't working.
Don't tell anyone but I was getting just a teensy bit bored with the postcards anyway.
Compared with Fearless's peerless creation they were all a bit flat.
Pun intended. ;oD
Ah, but that wasn't mine, Fifi. Would that I could lay claim to that piece of genious. I did send in a postcard, but it hasn't appeared (yet?).
Sorry FF (99)
Mind's playing tricks with me. Must be me age!!!
;o)
