PM continues to

Eddie Mair | 05:10 UK time, Thursday, 28 December 2006

keep you informed this festive season with another programme tonight. I will be in the office today but not on air. Like all ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ journalists, I'm having to complete an online legal course. By the end, I will be a barrister. Or something. I will be showing off my new legal knowledge on the air tomorrow night, with phrases such as "come off it, you crook" and "June, does the accused look guilty?"

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. This is what we do.

Re. the sound clip, I think the phrase you were looking for was "value added".

They say that ignorance of the law is no defence. Clearly the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ are hoping that knowledge of the law will be. Or that it will, at least, teach you where best to hide...

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ would, of course, be better off buying in the services of a top legal advisor. I hear Lord Goldsmith is a reliable kind of chap in this respect.

Do you think, by the end of your course, you'll be saying things like this?

    /radio4/news/bh/rams/bh_rumsfeld2.ram

although, in my humble opinion, this might not be necessarily accurate ....

I do love the word "disinclined". It must have geological origin.

Eddie, you do realise you'll be in fine company once you've completed your course don't you? It would seem that many of your froggers are legally inclined - not that the rest of us are illegally inclined of course. Well, not this early in the morning I'm not.....

But on a brief journalism course that I once attended I was informed that the 'average' listener nedded to be told once - again - and then again!

    So I don't get the clip !

    However that was ILR ?

Q - What is the difference between legally inclined and illegally inclined?

A - Four joints or a crate of lager.

I am almost always legally disinclined. But not always. To say 'always' would be to imply that I am always legally disinclined. Which would not necessarily be accurate.

    I thank you.

Oooh, Eddie (you waking up early person) I can't wait for your finely-honed legal brains to get to work on those slimy squirmers who avoid answering the question.

btw, my current hate 'avoid the answer' phrase is "What I WOULD say is..."

eg "Minister, how did your department come to make such a complete mess?"
"Well, what I WOULD say is that we have made enormous strides in the successful implementation of ....cont'd p94"

Yes, I'm sure you WOULD say that, wouldn't you?

btw, Big Sis, hahaha! Those soundbites will be sorely missed, although the originator may not be
