Jonnie
has been in Amsterdam.
"It could have been Beijing, however this is a picture taken outside Amsterdam Central station on Wednesday. I’m not sure how they cope in the rain and snow however."
New readers should know that Jonnie is the brains behind the froggers refuge - there's a link on the right.
Blimey! On yer bike Jonnie! :-)
Great Photo
Jonnie;
Did you manage to find your bike?
Si.
we cope because we are not wimps
Johanna (4) - I'm sure you're not buy how on earth to you remember where you parked? I have difficulty enough finding my car at the supermarket!
There are nine million bicycles in Amsterdam, and that's a fact, it's a thing we can't deny, like the fact that I will love PM till I die.
Reminds me of Pompey Dockyard - back in the mists of time, and well before I was born!
Aunt Dahlia(7) - Rubbish! - looks nothing like it.
Johanna Howell (4), I'm not sure I like the implication!
Welcome back Jonnie.
Aunt Dahlia (7) Once again you puzzle me into giggles. :-)
Ah blank it. That might have been funny if it had worked properly.
Sorry Aunt Dahlia (7) - I had a very nice picture of the Pompeii Dockyard - but obviously a dynamic rather than static link.
I'll get my coat.
Don't you dare, I've never been allowed to see the graffiti there, so you persist...mmm dockyard graffiti, but in latin, so it cannot possibly be smutty.
I have to say England looked lovely from the plane yesterday coming in over Saxmundham, skirting London and crossing the M3 - then a view of Portsmouth and back to Bournemouth. The patchwork fields etc...
However Bournemouth looked very grubby after a few days in the Netherlands - a few bikes(without lights) intermingled with rows of stationary traffic and empty cans and crisp packets strewn around the grassy verges.
I really think they have more respect for their country, but it's nice to be back.
On a broadcasting note, Radio 4 was excellent on Long wave, and all the Dutch have ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳1 and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳2 on their tellies. This mystifies me as to the copyright situations we are always told about. All the website listen again links worked on my sisters Tiscali Internet connection, so perhaps Holland has a special agreement. I'd be interested in an explanation one day?
So the Germans have finally returned our bikes. Does that mean that the Dutch will now stop to deliberately give German tourists and expats wrong directions, refuse to serve them in pubs and all those other petty ways in which the Dutch have reminded them of the war? Probably not...
Aunt D (7) It reminds you of a time before you were born? How does that work?
H.
Re: Adrie, Haha,
I'm more amused that you have pointed out your Gender, after the on-air incident when you were referred to on PM as a 'lady' by a well known correspondent.
Do I detect a note of cynicism in your comments above. I have to say that the majority of Dutch people I met were very warm and helpful, however I'm not German,-- well a quarter of me is.
I suspect that it’s probably a generation problem and hopefully these incidents are becoming less frequent, however as you are a Dutchman I respect your view.
Welcome back Jonnie. I'm guessing that's it's your left leg and buttock, perhaps up to around the belly button. Am I right?
And would this be a good moment to mention that Adrie van der Luijt is all man? -- It's been said before, after all ;-)
Jonnie, are you familiar with the Safari Hotel in Bournemouth? It may be a rival establishment I guess. If you are, what's it like?
Erm! Left leg and buttock -- well, I didn't get to try the bike I'm afraid :-( - next time though.
The Safari - I've heard of it and had a look at the website. It's in a central location, which is good but may be a little noisy. Whenever we book a Hotel I always check to see how they score with:-
There you can see the top hotels, rated in order as marked by the general public.
I've noticed they haven't had any reviews, but that's not a negative thing. It really comes to making up a judgement from their website Appy.
Jonnie (17),
They seem to like y'all pretty well. #4 out of 134 - Congratulations. I shall certainly visit should I ever find myself that far from home.
xx

Oh Ed, -
Fancy mentioning that on Eddie's blog. So a bit like my school reports then - 'Always room for improvement' ;-) ... more sweets in reception perhaps?
Jonnie,
It's clear from the testimonials that a stay chez vous is a pleasant experience for those who don't appreciate the sterility of the larger establishments or chains. Your and Simon's style of service is rated 'just right'
Congratulations again

Thanks Jonnie -- and, yes, congratulations on your high ranking! Your reviewers seem to be especially impressed with the service you give and with the cleanliness of your hotel. I do wish I was coming to stay at the Cransley! I am likely to be in Bournemouth later this year and I asked about the Safari Hotel as I believe it has been provisionally booked on my behalf. Central location is important but cleanliness -- ooh I like cleanliness above everything!! Good job you boys!!
The "leg and buttock, perhaps up to around the belly button" was a stab at which quarter of you might be German, by the way... :-)...
Aperitif (21) Suggest you get that booking changed asap! You could go incognito to the Cransley and be the Mystery Frogger. We'll work out a system of secret signs so you can communicate with all us snoopers via the Cransley cam!
Only joking, jonnie! ;o)
Congratulations to Aperitif for a complete set of 'recent comments!'

Oh, I would love to go to Jonnie's place but I can't make the booking myself so I don't get to choose :-(
Blimey Ed, you're right -- it's still there! Does this mean I'm talking to myself then?
Ap - Yes, were not really here. April Fool!
Appy, it's 1645 on Sunday and you're still talking to yourself.
Gosh, I've still got the full set! Something's not right 'ere...
I understand Appy, -- It'll all be fine I'm sure, but do pop in and say hello - we can wave to the Froggers at a pre-arranged time?
Doing an Eddie tonight - went to bed and just didn't nod off :-(
Oh I will Jonnie :-) It's a few months away yet though!
