Runners Sophie Stephenson, Rebecca Davies, Maria Smith and Andrea MacKinnon with their Festival Café blog post.

Boots and cats?! That's how you first learn how to beat box...go on say it fast!

coffee prep

Us runners have been doing it all morning after getting a lesson from beat-boxer extraordinaire, Shlomo, and his extremely talented Vocal Orchestra who took the stage and wowed the audience with heavenly harmonies.

They also helped our host Clare celebrate her birthday by joining the audience and runner Andrea in a sing song of happy birthday!!

They were then joined by the legend that is Bill Paterson who wowed the audience with an extract from his very emotive show '''And No More Shall we part". Writer and arachnophobiac Alan Bissett, was an absolute delight in the Green Room. How many people does it take to work an espresso machine? A combined failure to make coffee didn't bode well for our competence back stage.

Not to worry, Alan added a vital instruction to press the ON button to save us from a decaffeinated predicament! Suddenly, a whole hungry hoard of animals appeared ...... oh no wait it was actually the rambunctious cast of the hit show "Hairy Maclary" who arrived in full costume. Even when the rain hit this lively bunch, who came straight from their show, sat outside and soaked up the refreshing showers... or, as we like to call it, Scottish summer. Although poor hairy looked a bit like a soggy dog or as the cast kept saying "Hairy's getting wee'd on!"

Don't worry, it wasn't all soggy - indeed quite the opposite -with such a dazzling array of talent it was quite a show!
