Pro Evo 10: The Real Deal on the Game
So if you've checked the blog recently you would kow that Funky D beat DJ Cameo on Pro evolution soccer 2010 during our get your game on week. They helped us out with a quick on air review but now its time for the in depth blow by blow analysis from a die hard football and Pro Evo fan. Me!
So you know this game is always hotly anticipated by football fans along with its big rival Fifa 10. In the past even though Fifa had all the bells and whistles like official kits and league 2,3 and 4 teams but Pro always had better gameplay and hence won the battle. Well Konami (the makers) have been beavering away to improve Pro even more by adding stuff like true 360 degree control so no more turning on compass points and total freedom to choose your direction of travel to the degree.
2010 also adds official kits from the new Europa league to the Champions League which means more teams with their proper names and kits as opposed to West Midlands village?!?!(Aston Villa)
Add to that the fact that the online situation has been fixed (The last 2 editions suffered really badly from online lag). Aswell as the popular Legends mode where you create your own player to play in competition there's a bunch of online comps that you can play in both normal mode and as a Legend.
Standard improvements include all new player animations, tactics and strategies and player cards that allow teams and individuals to play more like their real life counter parts(Lionel Messi really will cut inside and hit it with his left foot) plus individual A.I for every player. huh?!? I guess if he's whats called an intelligent footballer then he reads Einstein and scores goals.....
Now to actually playing the game. Ive played it nuff over the past couple of weeks and I've been enjoying myself alot. I aint noticed that much of a difference from Pro 2009 although the movement and gameplay is an improvement from the last one.
Online really is smooth and although no ones reading Einstein yet, you can pull off some cute passes and "Beautiful football" is possible WHAT A SCORCHER!!
But there is a huge fly in the Pro Evo ointment. Somethings really wrong with this game.
I was assured that when the game was released it would be fixed in an update. Fair enough. Development time is short so sometimes an online update is the best way to make a game finally ready for market. But when you should have been aware of the problem months ago, it makes the gameplayer (me) scratch his head. What I'm leading up to is this.
No A.I improvement or new animation can excuse players being in the wrong teams. Not one or two but within checking five teams I found at least ten players still in teams they were in last season. (Shabby). And this continues throughout the game in all leagues available. No one and I mean no one that plays football games wants to see wrong players in their team and this is a fault the can't be overstated. Considering that the main rival (Fifa 10) updates every week not just player movements but form aswell makes Pro Evo look stupid by comparison.
The transfer window shut a long time ago and a mistake like this looks like the work of someone who doesnt like or watch football.......You can enter edit mode and move them yourself but then online still has them back in the wrong place! Aarrgghh!
So what this means is despite all the improvements in this game, you just can't take it seriously and If you want to play serious football I have to recommend Fifa 10.
What would have been a respectable 4 maybe even 4.5 joysticks out of 5 has to be a measly 2.5 out of 5 for realeasing a game I consider to be incomplete.
A cheesed off TTT
