We've just started pulling together a section about the legacy left us here in North East Wales by Thomas Telford - it's the 250th anniversary of his birth this year.
We all know about his great works like Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and the hopes to make it a World Heritage Site which will ensure its upkeep. But what our project has also done is to start to draw attention to other industrial developments - like Llangollen Canal & the tramways - and concern about their preservation too.

Further to the last blog, How honest are you?, here's another tale showing there are no shortage of Good Samaritans.
Entertainers Mark Whiteley & Daniel Hoffmann-Gill relied on the goodwill of locals for food and accommodation during their two-week and 216-mile trek across Britain - and they survived to tell the tale, stopping off at Chirk, Llangollen and Cerrigydrudion along the way.

I ask the question following the story about two refuse workers who found an American tourist's wallet - containing £190 and credit cards - in Bodfari on the Mold-Denbigh road - and now it's being flown home to him in Amarillo.
We need more fellas like the Honest Johns who handed it back. My wife left her purse behind on the desk at a shop recently and, within minutes, it had gone. Within 30 minutes one of cards had been used to buy petrol at a 'fast' pump and within an hour the thieves had been shopping, spending £80 at a local supermarket.

I read with interest this morning the story on that two housing bodies have said Wales is short of about 40,000 affordable homes.
This comes at a time when Wrexham, for example, is a major site for new homes with developments springing up everywhere. Whether they're affordable is another matter and perhaps any prospective buyers could let us know.
Meanwhile, Welsh pressure group, [Community], runs an online campaign [].
And they're holding a public meeting taking issue with plans for the sale of land belonging to the National Trust at Erddig - earmarked for 200 new homes - because they reckon the houses won't be affordable for locals. [The meeting is being held on Wednesday July 4, 7.30pm, at The Old Court House (upstairs), Hight Street, Ruabon]

Flintshire Council wants to hear what you think of it plans to close the county Reference and Information Centre at County Hall and move it to Mold Library due to its central location, longer opening hours - and because of declining numbers of visitors to the reference centre. Find out more via .
Personally, I think this is a good idea because the reference centre, including the fantastic local history section, is a fascinating resource and well worth a visit - probably on a wet weekend unless you're retired or researching family history - and bringing it into town will make it more accessible.

Does giving out condoms to children encourage 'overly liberal attitudes to sex among under-age children'?
