Maes D (The Welsh learners' tent)

Croeso i adran y Dysgwyr.
Welcome to the Welsh learners' section.

Ydych chi'n dysgu Cymraeg? Dyma beth fedrwch chi ei ddisgwyl ar y Maes eleni.

Learning Welsh? Here's what you can expect on the Maes this year.

A handy guide for learners and non-Welsh speakers is 'Yr 诺yl yn eich Poced' (The Festival in your Pocket). Imagine a rough guide explaining exactly what the Eisteddfod is and what happens during the week-long event. With a basic glossary in the back, even those with minimal Welsh language skills can get involved and try out a bit of Welsh, as they stroll around the Maes. Get your copy from the Eisteddfod Office, by emailing gwenllian@eisteddfod.org.uk, or by popping into Borders book shop, where the guides should be available at the counter.

The guide is also available on the Maes - in Y Ganolfan Groeso (the Welcome Centre ) and from Maes D during the week of the Eisteddfod. Translation equipment is available to borrow from Y Ganolfan Groeso (the Welcome tent ) upon arrival at the Maes.

Maes D

Maes D is the Welsh learners' area on the Eisteddfod Maes. It's here that learners can meet and socialise, compete, share experiences, gather information, and, most importantly, have lots of fun.

There are four parts to Maes D:

  1. Y llwyfan (the stage)
A whole host of activities, performances, competitions and taster courses are being held throughout the week. Everyone's welcome to come along and try the salsa, tai chi and yoga lessons, and to see performances by singers such as Heather Jones and Dafydd Iwan.
  2. Y caffi (the cafe)
A chance for learners and Welsh speakers to enjoy a coffee and a chat and also to win prizes by competing in the Scrabble tournament taking place daily in the Maes D Cafe.
  3. Y cyfrifiaduron (the computers)
Giving learners an overview of available websites that can help on their way to learning Welsh.
  4. Yr ardal arddangos (the exhibition area)
A variety of stands, including Welsh for Adults, which has lots of useful information about how to get started with learning Welsh.

Teithiau (tours)

Yr helfa drysor (the treasure hunt) around the Maes gives learners the chance to familiarise themselves with the Eisteddfod. There will also be a trip to the Lle Celf (Arts Area,) Castell Caerdydd (Cardiff Castle ) and to the Amgueddfa (Museum.)
