Long journey to the perfect place
Like Sue, we were disallusioned with England and decided to sell up and leave. Having spent eight years living overseas in Hong Kong and Dubai, we had quite a collection of furniture and ornaments. It was very difficult to sell some of the things. We had around six boot sales lasting through the winter. We finally sold the house and packed all our belongings into our estate car, including two children then aged three and five and set off one bright May morning down to Dover. We didn't know where we would end up, hoping eventually to reach Southern Spain, but thinking we could be distracted on the way, possibly in France was very exciting. The world was ours, we had freedom and we had such a great adventure, especially the children who learned a great deal on their travels. Eventually we did get to Spain and travelled the whole coastline down to AndalucÃa without finding a place we really liked enough to settle. We were getting tired and disheartened when we decided to leave the coastal route and drive inland. It's just as well we did, because the very next morning we found the ideal place in the mountains, about one hour from the coast. It was perfect!
