The Nottingham Cattle Market was opened in 1886 on the site of Cattle Market Road and Meadow Lane, primarily for the sale of livestock. Although cattle and livestock are no longer sold the original and iconic buildings still host a lively market every weekend. Return tripsStuart Collins, from Radcliffe-on-Trent, first visited the site as a student in search of bargains in 1974. He's been returning almost every Saturday ever since. "It's a chance to meet people, observe people and be part of a short-time community."
Help playing audio/video The retired teacher has purchased all sorts of items over the years - from vegetables to racing bikes to antique industrial clocks. Stuart Collins makes a bid "It's the complete variety of things you can buy and to look at. It's far more interesting than, say, a supermarket." 2000 lotsThe auctions start at 10:00, with 2000 lots spread around three rooms. "There's rubbish in one, more rubbish in two, but three's got best rubbish of t'lot." last updated: 31/07/2009 at 15:12 SEE ALSOYou are in: Nottingham > People > Your stories > Draw of the cattle-less market About 'My Notts'Nottinghamshire is full of beautiful locations that are rightly know the world over.
