Artist profile
This set of stills, was taken from a video piece in which I projected
newsreader's faces onto my own and a fellow student's face.
The face is a blank canvas and acts as a screen for the projection.
The 3D static image of our faces is painted with the 2D moving image
of a variety of newsreaders.
At times the features of both faces fall into sync, creating a third
identity, before falling back into two separate faces which clash
and become confused with one another again.
The combination of two identities of a different sex produces a drag
like image of an ambiguous gender.
The video, although a piece in itself, is secondary to the stills.
It is the moment captured in the still, revealing a third identity,
with which I am concerned.
The photograph, unlike video, displays a mini death in that it has
no future or past, only the present.
It is this paralysis that interests me.
