Macaque ID guide

The Green Group has been studied by scientists for 15 years and is currently made up of approximately 80 individuals.

The first way to tell the difference between macaques is their size. This is a very effective way of differentiating between males and females, as females tend to be smaller. However, to the untrained eye all the monkeys might look the same other than their size, but they are in fact all unique – in facial features, build and character.

The most useful things of all for the Dynasties crew to be able to tell them apart were injuries they had sustained during fights, and markings on their faces.

Once you get your eye in it's amazing how quickly you can identify them – especially the males.
