What’s it like to be a cancer survivor in the prime of your life - before you’ve established a career, met a life partner or thought about having kids?  Every year around 5,000 women under the age of 45 are diagnosed with breast cancer with around 3,000 more being told they have cervical cancer.  What support is there out there for younger  women?  How do you adjust to your new body? And how do you maintain friendships and a love life?  Jenni talks to Cordelia Feldman who was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 33 and to Laura Davis who at 28 was told she had cervical cancer.

We are now in the last week of the holy month of Ramadan - It ends this Sunday, the 27th July. For Muslims it means fasting between sunrise and sunset. The rules apply to everyone apart from children, the ill or the elderly, but it’s a tough one  to stick to when the festival falls during the period when the days are at their longest and, this year, at their hottest. Ramadan moves forward around 10 days every year.  Catherine Carr took up an invitation to break the fast with a family from Harrow in London.

You might remember Lynn Ruth Miller from her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. Born in Ohio, based in San Francisco and currently living in Brighton, Lynn Ruth began her stand-up career nine years ago, when she was 71. Her introduction to comedy came when she was working as a local journalist and writing a story about San Francisco’s Comedy College. She enrolled, thinking it would make a good story, and has never looked back.

Jenni speaks to her about her brand new show ‘Not Yet Dead’ and performing as part of the set at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe next week. 

Whether it’s Medusa, Rossetti’s Lady Lilith or Tangled, Disney’s take on the fairy tale Rapunzel, hair has long been the inspiration for art and mythology.  In The True and Splendid History of the Harristown Sisters, author Michelle Lovric tells the story of 7 Irish siblings, who make a fortune out of their collective 40 feet of hair.  The sisters sing and dance on stage but the real draw is in the finale when they let down their long locks.  The novel is based on the true story of the Sutherland sisters who made millions showcasing their hair and selling products in the late 19th century in America.  Michelle Lovric joins Jenni to talk about the power of hair. 

Millions of people around the world will watch the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Games features 17 sports – there’s swimming, cycling, gymnastics. But there are also pursuits which we are less used to seeing splashed across the sports pages – such as lawn bowling. Jenni speaks to a member of the Welsh Woman’s Lawn Bowling Team, Caroline Taylor as she prepares to take on the world’s best bowlers.
