Menopause is experienced by half the world and yet it remains a difficult subject to discuss. Broadcaster Cathy Macdonald meets women at different stages of their journey to find out just what it means to go through menopause today.
Marking Menopause Awareness Month, this programme will take a close look at what happens to the body and mind during this transformative time and what treatments are available to help deal with it. In Lochaber, Cathy visits noted singer and musician, Mary Ann Kennedy, for a heartfelt discussion about the impact that menopause had on her life and how she found strength in speaking out. In Inverness, she meets two doctors hoping to improve provisions for women in the Highlands while, in Glasgow, Cathy spends some time with the women behind the pioneering support group, Menopause Warriors Scotland. She also has the chance to try some outdoor yoga!
With moving personal accounts and expert advice, we highlight how challenging and difficult menopause can be while also looking at the opportunities and joy that can come with this life-changing experience.
