Candice Brathwaite: I wasn't seeing my version of motherhood reflected
Candice Brathwaite started blogging in 2016 to tell her motherhood story and launched Make Motherhood Diverse to ensure others could see themselves reflected online.
Her debut book I Am Not Your Baby Mother - about being a black British mum - made the Sunday Times Bestseller list last week. Candice tells Woman's Hour why she was moved to write it and shares some of the nuances and issues that she wasn’t seeing reflected in any of the books she’d read about becoming a mother.
She also acknowledges how difficult it is to celebrate the book’s success against the backdrop of the Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality and racism, after the death of another black man.
