Hammer Harrison: Being a Harlem Globetrotter is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love my job! Everyday I'm out on that court, putting smiles on kids' faces.

RYG: Can anyone get a job like yours?

HH: To be a successful basketball player you've got practice everyday, work hard towards your goals and of course, stay in school. Practise your craft and you'll be able to achieve any goal that you want.

RYG: How important is education to the Harlem Globetrotters?

HH: In the United States we have the C.H.E.E.R. program which teachers young people about character. We are ambassadors of goodwill so we like to reach out to each and every community and give them a hand in any way possible.

RYG: What music gets you psyched up before a big game?

HH: I'm a big fan of the Harlem Globetrotters' theme song "Sweet Georgia Brown." We play it when we perform our magic circle before every game.

C.H.E.E.R.

The Globetrotters' program focuses on:

  • Cooperation
  • Healthy mind & body
  • Effort
  • Enthusiasm
  • Responsibility

RYG: What's been the best highlight for you being a Harlem Globetrotter?

HH: Travelling to so many different countries. In November 2009 we toured U.S. military bases in Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Djibouti and Qatar. It's a great feeling to be able to bring them that slice of American pie and give them a taste of America when they're not at home.
