Rock music
Rock music originated in the USA in the early 1950s as rock 鈥榥鈥 roll, which was influenced by genres such as rhythm and blues, folk and jazz. Indie rock
In the 1970s and 80s, the genre of indie rock (or independent rock) developed in the UK and USA. This type of music was originally recorded by low budget labels, allowing bands to develop their sound without interference. Indie rock incorporates a wide variety of styles. Bands such as The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure and the Welsh band, Candelas are considered indie bands.
