Russell's favourite joke

Tris Cotterill | 15:51 UK time, Friday, 23 April 2010

Hope you all enjoyed show 5 last night? What did you think of Russell's Pastor Manning impression? Remember we are on Twitter every week whilst the show is going out so if you fancy a chat, send a tweet our way!

Some of our favourite posts and tweets yesterday came from @hannah_lou_lahh, Poppy Mace, Kieran McMahon and Ruth Locksley so this is Russ responding to them.

    And one for good luck...
Do you like cake? Have you ever had any interesting cake incidents?

    Hey Russ,

    What's your favourite CHEESE?

I remember someone yelled it out at the Birmingham gig on your Dingledodies tour, but I can't remember what you said.. was it brie? It's an important question as you can tell a lot about a man by his taste in cheese..

  • Comment number 10.

    Also Russell,

I have recently found this site of funny news, I think it's mainly America, but it's amusing all the same!

  • Comment number 11.

I love the show, it makes me laugh out loud, you must love your job. Do you get nervous when you do the show?
I think I would, don't know how you do it :)!

One of London’s busiest train stations was closed twice after staff left their burning toast unattended, it was claimed.

Two things to make you smile

Well the first will make you cross your legs and yell 'why' (girls and guys, regardless) (seriously, why - my favourite bit of it is that it went missing....where?)

Second thing remains one of the most moving things I have ever seen on the internet. It shows the unconditional love that exists in all of us (get your tissues ready for 4.30mins)

Well done for inspiring people to look for the good news in life. Wouldn't it be a cool day when 'and finally' becomes the negative bit at the end of the news ;)

What's with doing Cardiff on a Tuesday night?? Seriously, what are the chances of getting a babysitter and trecking from Brizzle to Cardiff on a school night - not likely :-S Maybe you could change it an arena tour plus the colston hall?????? xxx

The stand up comedy guest was hilarious this week, great choice guys!

I would love to see Russell take the pi*s out of the content the BNP have on their leaflets, some of which include...

"Women enjoy sex, therefore rape is healthy/legal/fair" (i can't remember exactly).

So idiotic, I feel Russell would have a field day with that.

  • Comment number 29.

    Really enjoying the series.
I don't know if this is the kind of thing your looking for, but...
Caught this story on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ News channel, must have been Tuesday night, marking the return of HMS Albion to Portsmouth.

The reporter manages to speak with Borris Johnsons father, who is returning as a stranded UK tourist. The actual conversation is both very patriotic and the video funny to watch, you'll understand why when you've seen it. (The video on the website doesn't capture the conversation)
    Keep up the good work

Hello, Russell hope you are well, my question to you is as a child when ever you were naughty, did you ever get grounded?

Hello Russell and Good News team! i just had to share this story i found in the M.E.N paper on friday afternoon! i found it hilarious....

CAKE THEIF'S LATE CONFESSION TAKES THE BISCUIT!

YORKSHIRE..A man who stole a packet of Jaffa Cakes from his employer 50 years ago was so racked with guilt he tracked down his former boss to reimburse him.

John Bibby,65,from York, was working at a holiday camp in Skipsea, East Yorkshire, in 1960 when he took the cakes from Les Simpson. He traced Mr Simpson to Beverley, East Yorkshire, bought a box of the cakes and confessed his crime.

Mr Simpson,79,knew nothing about the theft and was "shell-shocked" at Mr Bibby's confession.

Is it just me or this story just pure genius! i would lovvvve it to get mentioned on the show or on russell's video blog!..which brings me to ask a question to russell for his blog in relation to this story haha..have u ever commited a crime as shocking as this one?!

  • Comment number 47.

  • Comment number 48.

heya this is not a news story but it's a true story it's kinda soppy but see what you think pretty long mind you but anyway....

    Lucky Dog.......

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.'

Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box..

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body f felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.
He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most Credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours! Live simply. Love seriously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God
    A small request

All you are asked to do is keep this circulating.

Dear God, I pray for the cure of cancer.
    Amen

All you are asked to do is keep this circulating, even if it is only to one more person, in memory of anyone you know that has been struck down by cancer or is still fighting their battle.

    Hey,

Loving the show and have this old gem to share:

In May 2007 it was asked how unrelated Islamic men and women could work together in the same office, when Islam forbids men and women who aren’t married or related to be alone together.
The answer was hilarious: let the woman suckle the man 5 times. Apparently this would diffuse all sexual tension in the office whilst also making the woman the foster mother of who she suckles.

    *shudder*
