Paul has a T5 spinal injury leaving him with no sensation below the waist. Four years ago Paul came off his motorbike and broke his back. Prior to this he was doing an apprenticeship as a plumber. He now works for the same plumbing company as a design engineer full time.

Since his accident he has embraced several wheelchair orientated activities such as skiing, basketball and football. Most recently he went sailing in France for charity and has taken up cycling and weight lifting. He’s keen to do a sport that he can do with an able bodied person. Paul still feels pretty independent – though sometimes slightly hindered.

Paul has a non-identical twin brother who lives in Swindon. He loves driving and meeting mates down the pub and he reckons he’s got pretty good rhythm when it comes to dancing. He loves festivals and went to Glastonbury again last summer. Paul hates it when people make a big deal of him being in a wheelchair. He just gets on with it and tries to remain laid back.

Heather Small, 44, is a British soul singer from London and was part of the Manchester-based nineties act M People. In her remarkable career, Heather has won two Brit Awards, the Mercury Music Prize and performed across the globe, selling millions of records in the process. She still sings and has just finished a highly successful UK tour.

Heather was a contestant during the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 where she danced to eighth place with Brian Fortuna. Heather took to the road again in November and December last year for 15 live dates across the UK.
