Introducing: Alright the Captain

This group of four have arrived from different corners of the United Kingdom to create some trippy music here in Derby.

What's the name of your band and where do you come from?

Alright the Captain, We're based between Nottingham and Derby but none of us are from there, we hail from Birmingham, Ilkeston, Northern Ireland and Norwich originally.

What do you sound like?

Gaz from The MazeÌýin Nottingham summed us up pretty well with this quote so we'll use it!

He described us as 'Experimental instrumental rock, which bursts from trippy melodic surf to ‘all guns blazing’ progressive and aggressive rock in moments!'

Who are your influences?

We all listen to a lot of different stuff ranging from hip hop to metal but we all have a shared love for bands like Battles, Why?, Holy F**, Squarepusher and things like that so we try and mix it all up.

Tell us about some of your best songs...

Our best songs usually come out of just jamming and if we happen to come across a particular section we like we'll work on it for a bit and then see where it goes from there.

We tend to have a lot going on in our tunes and like making it interesting with odd time changes and weird sounds.

It's just us having fun while we're at it without worrying about writing in one particticular style.

Where can people watch you play live?

We like keeping ourselves busy and have quite a few shows coming up both in the UK and in Ireland over the next few months supporting great bands like 'And So I Watch You From Afar', 'Lafaro' and 'Tapasia'.

Anything else you might like to tell us about...

You can check out some more tunes and get updates on what we're up to on our MySpace site. Come say hello sometime, we won't bite :-)
