Introducing... The Jet Boys

Alex from garage/rock/punk band The Jet Boys, tells us more about the group's music.

Who are your influences?听

As a band, we're influenced by a range of bands, from 70's glam to modern guitar bands. Some personal influences include New York Dolls, Iggy Pop, Johnny Thunders, The Libertines, The Beatles, Syd Barrett, William Blake, Oscar Wilde, Charles Baudelaire and Jimi Hendrix, to name a few!

We sound a bit like...听

Imagine The Velvet Underground mixed with the Sex Pistols. We mix in indie, punk, rock 'n' roll, British glam rock and add a hint of pop in there too for good measure!

Who would be a dream band member and why?听Johnny Thunders without a doubt. Or Hendrix. Or Animal from the Muppets!

Does the city offer you enough opportunities?听

Definitely. There's a ton of great venues, promoters and other bands around that we all love and enjoy working with. There's also a massive pink porn shop too, what else do we need?

What was your best gig and why?

It has to be when we headlined at Junktion 7 a few months back. After a few too many rounds of JD and coke we took the stage and we got that feeling where everything felt right. The room was moving, the crowd were frantic, and I think we played OK too!

How did the band get together?

Alex (Vox) and Adam (Bass) formed the band whilst at a friend's party, bonding over our favourite tunes of that summer. Shortly after this, Rob wanted in and started to play the drums. As a three-piece we carried on, went through a succession of other guitarists who never quite fitted the jigsaw, until we came to Matt and his super fast fingers. It was love at first sight, not in a gay way though.

Who are the most influential figures in your life?听

I would have to say those who died for what they believed in. There is no bigger sacrifice. So Syd Barrett, Hendrix, Thunders, Lennon, Jones, Morrison etc.

Best band in Notts and why?

There are a lot of genuinely great local bands, such as tabloidLove, Censored, Patchwork Grace and The Cassettes to name a couple, although my favourite would have to be NotSoPretty.

At the minute they're having a few line up changes but when I first saw these guys live I was literally blown away by the energy, sound and look of them. They remain to date, the best band I've ever seen live!

What are you listening to at the moment?

My fingers, typing! On a serious note, at the moment I'm listening to The Kills a lot. I don't listen to a heap of modern music but The Kills I do like. Also listening to The Velvet Underground.

In a fire, which album would you rescue?

It's got to be The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett. I live my life by this album, none of it makes much sense but it made me love the art of writing music.

Give us a short description of your best tracks...

BAD - This is a brand new track. I like it the most because it is all three chords and a real catchy tune. I remember writing it in my bedroom and it all fitted itself together. I've learnt you can make a good song using two or three chords as you can using seven or eight.
