FACTS |
|
The
Cowley Road Carnival first began in 2000.
2003
Cowley Road Carnival will be held on Sunday June 15
between 13:00 and 19:00.
Last
year 15,000 people attended the Cowley Road Carnival.
The
carnival is funded by the Single Regeneration Budget
(SRB).
This
year, the carnival organisers hope to include workshops
on Afro-Caribbean and Asian music and dance, puppet
making skills and circus skills.

New
to Cowley Road Carnival is the street art group Electric Cabaret
with Richard Jones, who has been tutoring a group from Larkrise
School in addition to his day job of working in the community at
Asylum Welcome.
|
Street
performers will also keep the crowds happy. |
Favourites,
Bicyclettes, are also back with Robert Stredder who will be teaching
circus tricks to the young and young at heart.
And
for the first time, we see the construction of a large scale Cowley
Road Carnival queen costume on this year's theme of the rainbow,
which Councillor Olive Steadman will wear on the day.
Other
events planned for the day:
- Stilt
walkers and street performers will be appearing on the streets
throughout the day.
- The
Rap Yard will provide creative activities for young people throughout
the Manzil Gardens, including vidoe and film making sessions and
a performance to show global culture.
- The
organisers are hoping to include workshops on four distinct areas
- Afro Caribbean and Asian music, dance, puppet making skills
and circus skills. More details will follow closer to the date.
