9 stars whose lives (and careers) changed forever after Strictly Come Dancing
has inspired many people to dust off their dancing shoes and give jiving a go, As proven by one-time [or Class of 2015] Strictly contestant on a call-in this week.
Speaking to listeners, Jeremy uncovered that the popular dance show had caused a host of people to foxtrot their way to the nearest dance class and waltz up a storm in a bid to emulate the fun of their favourite show.
Has Strictly inspired you to take up dancing?
Jeremy hears from listeners who were spurred to take to the floor for lessons themselves.
But it's not just listeners that have shown a vested interest in hitting the floor since Strictly Come Dancing hit our screens. Former contestants have kept their jazz hands firmly splayed since their stints on the show, dancing their way into musical roles and even more career success!
From Alesha Dixon's reality TV work to Tom Chambers' Astaire-inspired role in the West End, here are the stars who have enjoyed the biggest career boosts since dancing in that famous ballroom...
Ore Oduba
was a busy 成人论坛 employee before he shook his stuff, but since lifting the 2016 trophy he's taken to the airwaves as a Radio 2 presenter and we're sure you'll agree, there are few jobs quite so coveted.
In 2017 Ore has stood in for both and when they've been absent from their shows and while we can't see his paso doble on air, his voice still has us twirling.
He also presented the 成人论坛's coverage of Ariana Grande's tribute concert, One Love Manchester in 2017. He has certainly come a long way from his beginnings on in 2008.
Caroline Flack
Is there anything that can't do?!
After being enlisted as a contestant on the twelfth series of the hit dancing show, Caroline and her dance partner, Pasha Kovalev, salsa'd their way to the first perfect 40 of the season and went on to bag that coveted glitterball trophy.
Since then Caroline's career has sky-rocketed - from co-hosting The X Factor to releasing an autobiography and fronting the dating phenomenon that was Love Island - but that doesn't mean that the former Bo' Selecta! star has retired her dancing shoes.
Before hitting our screens, Caroline studied performing arts and auditioned for a role in Starlight Express but ended up getting her first big break in television. Post-Strictly, Flack had the confidence to take on a role in the theatre production Crazy For You, alongside SCD alumni Tom Chambers.
"I remember Pasha telling me I should carry on," Flack told Mail Online prior to her onstage debut. "It was an amazing feeling to think that a professional dancer believed in me as a performer. I knew this was what I’d wanted to do all along. I’d like to say I’m terrified but I’m not. I’m actually more excited than I’ve been in ages."
Ed Balls
became one of the nation’s favourite ex-politicians during his Strictly stint.
OK, we're not going to say Ed Balls got a career boost AS SUCH, but his appearance on the 2016 series brought a lot of love to the former Shadow Chancellor. His dancing skills (or lack of) were almost as much of a cultural phenomenon as the time he tweeted his own name.
It even made him a bit of a favourite with listeners of Radio 1's Breakfast show...
Most likely satisfied with his new-found status, Ed returned to his day-to-day life as the chairman of Norwich City FC and an occasional broadcaster.
Matt Baker
finally got that permanent job at the 成人论坛.
Both Matt and his co-host Alex Jones have waltzed across the Strictly dancefloor but Matt's stint may have helped him secure a permanent seat on the 成人论坛 sofa.
Before taking part in the 2010 series of the show, Matt was a guest presenter and co-host on the show. However, following the departure of previous host Jason Manford, Matt was made full-time co-host and has been part of the show ever since.
As well as The One Show, he's gone on to front 成人论坛 shows The Gift, Big Blue Live and Wild Alaska Live. He was a runner-up on Strictly, who said the winner takes it all?
Alesha Dixon
It was a whole 10 years ago that waltzed her way to Strictly victory and it's safe to say that she's achieved a lot in that time.
Putting her pre-Strictly dance training to good use with professional partner Matthew Cutler (Alesha previously starred in the music video for N.E.R.D.'s 'She Wants To Move') after the disbandment of Mis-Teeq, her triumph on the show saw the singer become embroiled in a bidding war, with labels desperate to sign her.
What happened next? Two albums and a host of TV gigs, including scoring a spot back on Strictly, as part of the judging panel! She's since released a jewellery line, a fragrance, bagged a place as a Britain's Got Talent judge and presented two dance shows: Dance Dance Dance and .
Tom Chambers

was a 成人论坛 regular prior to his (more than) successful stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
Best known for his roles on , and , his appearance on the sixth series of SCD saw him compete with Rachel Stevens for the crown before leaving a winner.
Tom's beginnings suggested a penchant for all things musical. Having attended the National Youth Music Theatre, it was the recreation of a dance sequence from 1937 film, A Damsel In Distress, that caught the attention of casting directors and bagged him his first role in Holby City.
Life after Strictly for Tom is a lot more reminiscent of his theatre beginnings, starring in Crazy For You alongside Caroline Flack and the coveted role of Jerry Travers in the Fred Astaire classic 'Top Hat'.
Tom's performance in the Astaire role even garnered attention from his daughter, Ava Astaire McKenzie, calling his performance "wonderful". Not bad, eh?
Kara Tointon
Kara Tointon: "The last two plays I've done have been comedies, so it's great to be doing Gaslight, a psychological thriller."
Kara Tointon talks about starring in her new play, 'Gaslight'
We were first introduced to as Dawn Swann in but her first professional acting gig came in the form of a role in The Sound of Music at Cliffs Pavilion; notable considering that life post-Strictly saw her play the part of Maria in The Sound Of Music Live in 2015!
Hitting the ballroom in all her bedazzled glory in 2008, Kara was awarded her first 10 of the series by former SCD contestant Alesha Dixon and went on to win the series alongside professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev.

Kara Tointon talks about her Dyslexia
Life for Kara since Strictly involved a 成人论坛 Three documentary discussing dyslexia, , as well as a smorgasbord of theatre roles and plenty of dancing - from her role as Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion to Evelyn in Absent Friends and the upcoming part as Olivia in The Royal Production Company of Twelfth Night - but that glitterball trophy is still her pride and joy:
“...It’s now a bald Glitterball, like it was made on the set with Blu-Tack," Kara told The Scotsman. "All of the mirror tiles have fallen off so it’s grey and bald, but hey, it’s my pride and joy. “I loved the whole Strictly experience. When in life do you get to just go in and dance every day? It was a lot more intense than I had expected, but it was a mad, one-off, crazy experience.”
Ricky Whittle
went global (after a while).
When Ricky competed in 2009 he was best known as Calvin from Hollyoaks. But since then, his career has crossed the Atlantic and he is now a rising star in Hollywood.
It might be tough to draw a line between his ballroom skills and his roles in NCIS, The 100 and Mistresses in the US, but his career definitely went skyward after Strictly.
He can currently be seen as the lead in Amazon's supernatural comic book series, American Gods. Nice work, Calvin.
Jill Halfpenny
SCD Champions - Series 2
Watch the winning couple of Strictly Come Dancing 2004, Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennett, perform at the final.
Cast your mind back to 2004 and winning dance with partner Darren Bennett. Does your memory need refreshing? Relive the moment via the clip above...
Beating stiff competition from Julian Clary and Denise Lewis, Jill's time on Strictly came after we became acquainted with her as Kate Mitchell in EastEnders but, post-SCD, Jill's schedule has become chockablock with West End roles.
She's played Roxie Hart in Chicago, starred in Calendar Girls, and even played Paulette Bonafonte in Legally Blonde (the latter performance won her a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical!).
All things considered, it seems as though Jill more than took notice when Tess and Bruce signed off with their usual 'keeeeep dancing!'.
