5 famous stars who followed their parents into the pop world

Albert Hammond on duetting with his 8 year old self!

Albert Hammond tells Simon about reworking his first recording into a duet with himself.

Music legend Albert Hammond joined Simon Mayo on Radio 2 to share stories from four decades in the music industry and talk about his new album, In Symphony.

But as well as his own musical legacy, Albert has made a mark on the pop world through his son, Albert Hammond Jr, who's a hugely successful singer/songwriter in his own right.

To celebrate those strong Hammond genes, here are five of our favourite pop parents who have passed their talents on to their offspring.

Albert Hammond and Albert Hammond JR

Albert Hammond is a successful musician in his own right and he's just as well known for the hit singles he has written for other people than he is his own work.

Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now by Starship, One Moment In Time by Whitney Houston, Don't Turn Around by Ace Of Base? All co-written by Mr Hammond.

And those musical genes have been handed down to the next generation to Albert Hammond Jr - albeit without the knack of writing hits for the world's biggest divas.

Instead, Albert Hammond Jr is a bit of an indie icon, having made his name in The Strokes before releasing three critically acclaimed solo albums.

Julio Iglesias and Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias talks to Graham Norton

The singer chats about his career and latest studio album, Sex and Love.

Julio Iglesias has sold an estimated 350 million albums during his career. It's the sort of number most artists can only dream of.

His son Enrique has picked up that same baton and has shifted an impressive 140 million albums during a more recent run at the top.

Enrique first made his name as a Latin star like his father, with a string of hits in Spanish, before going global with English language hits such as Bailamos, Rhythm Divine and, of course, a little song called Hero.

But while we can all hum at least one Enrique hit, dad takes the career crown, with a 46 year career spanning from 1969 to his most recent release, his 39th studio album Mexico, in 2015.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus

Like many pop parents, Billy Ray Cyrus passed music onto his kids and some might argue they were better at it than him.

Now, we don't want to talk down Achy Breaky Heart, but Miley Cyrus has evolved into one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, with hits such as Party In The USA, Wrecking Ball, We Can't Stop and new smash Malibu all becoming modern classics.

It doesn't just stop at Miley either. Sister Noah released her debut single earlier this year and heavily tattooed brother Trace is the frontman with pop-rockers Metro Station.

Billy Ray hasn't let the kids steal all the limelight however. He released his most recent album in 2016 and has starred in a string of movies and TV shows.

Marty Wilde and Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde remembers the 1980's

Kim Wilde remembers the 1980's and talks about being over awed as a young star.

Marty Wilde was one of the UK's first true rock and roll stars, releasing a string of hit singles between 1957 and 1971.

But his other claim to fame is being the dad of the one and only Kim Wilde, 80s pop sensation and occasional voice on Radio 2. She has appeared on Sarah Cox's several times, sharing her own insights on the most fabulous decades of pop music ever.

Marty was part responsible for Kim's success in the 80s, writing some of her most popular hits, including the unforgettable Kids In America. They really kept it in the family.

Berry Gordy and Redfoo

Berry Gordy

Music legend Berry Gordy on his life, career and his new West End show Motown The Musical

Whatever you may think of LMFAO's hit Sexy And I Know It, we bet you've moved your hips to it at least once in your lifetime. It's high on the list of catchy hit singles.

Band member Redfoo does however come from a respected musical heritage however, his dad is Berry Gordy - the man who founded Motown Records.

So, while Dad launched the careers of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, Gladys Knight and Lionel Richie during the 60s and 70s, son has packed dancefloors since 2008 with his own musical ventures.
