The most romantic pop stars in the world right now

melted hearts across the world with his hit single Thinking Out Loud and he's set to do the same with new track, How Do You Feel (Paean).

He can make us move with pop hits such as Shape Of You but he can also give us all the feels when he slows things down and opens his heart. He's one of the most romantic songwriters in pop, when the mood takes him and we're ready to get mushy when he performs in the Radio 1 Live Lounge this month.

But he's got competition in the pop world for writing the emotional songs. These are the most romantic stars in pop right now.

Ed Sheeran

conquered the charts with his upbeat singles Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill but his new tune, How Would You Feel (Paean), is a proper weepy.

He hadn't planned to add the song on his new album until girlfriend Cherry Seaborn reminded him of it.

"I actually forgot the song existed," he told US radio host Ryan Seacrest.

"I’d finished the album and I was going through notes and I said to my girlfriend ‘What’s your favourite song on the album?’, and she said ‘You’ve forgotten it existed and I’ve got it in my email 'cause I’m the only one you sent it to.’

"So she picked it out from like, a year and a half ago and then I ended up recording it."

Niall Horan

has travelled the world with and as a solo artist but his debut single was written about first love in his hometown of Mullingar in Ireland.

Every time you go back to your hometown you'll see this girl in the bar, or wherever, and then everything comes back to you
Niall Horan

"To me the way I look at it, if you're from a small town you'll get this, every time you go back to your hometown you'll see this girl in the bar, or wherever, and then everything comes back to you," he US radio host Zach Sang.

"And then the other part of it is the town itself no matter whatever you do whenever you live, when you go home, everything comes back to the town.

"That's the way I kind of wrote it, as a double meaning."

Chris Martin has written some huge hits in his time but one of his most romantic moments came, sadly, after his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow when he wrote Everglow about their relationship.

"I think in life everyone needs to be broken in some way," he told Zane Lowe on Beats1.

"I think everyone in their life goes through challenges, whether it's love or money, kids or illness. You have to really not run away from that stuff."

"I like the idea that at the end of most things there's something good to be found from it."

James Arthur

made a huge return to the charts in 2016 with his single Say You Won't Let Go, which he says was inspired by the love who pulled him through mental health issues after losing his first record deal.

"Love can completely reinvigorate you. You should hold onto that"
James Arthur

"It's a story that talks about unconditional love," he told MetroLyrics.

"It refers to being in a dark place mentally and love can completely reinvigorate you.

"You should hold onto that, hold onto whatever is making you feel you belong and you are worth something."

Taylor Swift

has turned her love life into some of modern pop's finest hits, but behind her lyrics about broken relationships are all born from a sense of romance.

Her song Out Of The Woods, which is believed to have been written about Harry Styles, provided an insight to the troubles of dating when you are one of the most famous women in the world.

"It was interesting to write about a relationship where you’re just honestly like, ‘This is probably not gonna last, but how long is it gonna last?'" She told The Grammys.

"Those fragile relationships... It doesn’t mean they’re not supposed to happen. The whole time we were having happy memories or crazy memories or ridiculously anxious times, in my head it was just like, ‘Are we OK yet? Are we there yet? Are we out of this yet?'"

John Legend

The more you know someone, the more you鈥檙e inspired by your relationship
John Legend

biggest hit, All Of Me, was written about his love for wife Chrissy Teigen. And it doesn't get much more romantic than that.

"The more you know someone, the more you’re inspired by your relationship," he told US magazine LA Confidential.

"Also, I grew up just learning what it means to be in love with somebody… because I had never really been in love before. I guess you have to grow enough to be able to write that song with sincerity and authenticity."

He got his messagage across. Chrissy later told Huffington Post that the song moved her to tears.

"I'm emotional, but I really don't cry at things like that but yeah it's beautiful and live it's pretty unreal," she said.

That鈥檚 how I know that I鈥檝e written a good song for myself 鈥 it鈥檚 when I start crying.
Adele

Adele's love songs have been heard around the world but before anyone else is moved by her music, she needs to feel it first.

"In order for me to feel confident with one of my songs it has to really move me," she told Hello magazine.

"That’s how I know that I’ve written a good song for myself — it’s when I start crying.

"It’s when I just break out in tears in the vocal booth or in the studio, and I’ll need a moment to myself."

Drake

single handedly brought romance back to hip hop and aside from pledging love for at regular occasions, he raps about relationships with more sensitivity than some of his peers.

"I’m inspired by the woman. I’m inspired by the make up of a woman. Their mind, their conversation, the emotions that they exude and pour out of them. I love women," Drake tells CNN.

"I love to study women. I’m not a womanizer, but I love to study just behavioural patterns in women and how to interact with them."
