Reg is a council dustman. Never married, he moved in with his sister Effie, after her husband’s death, and plays father to her children. He has long held a torch for Nancy Parker.
When the dustmen are charged with rooting out and reporting food wasters following the King’s Proclamation, Reg is assiduous in his duties. His motives are complex. This is the first time he has held any sway, and he enjoys the gratitude, especially as requested from Nancy.
