Hi .Everyone.
What a wonderfull site,my name is Ray Pinder and my wife is Gill(Gillian). We
migrated to Australia in 1971 and have been back to Nottingham many
times ,how I wish we could transfer our lifestyle back to Nottingham.I
miss that humour that requires no explanation ,the straight forward
friendliness of strangers, pork pies, fish and chips, mushy peas and
cold frosty morning.
Who remembers Colemans at Hockley, the Brit, Union, Boat at Trent
Bridge, yes I remember the Beachcomber, saw some great bands there,
Steam Packet, John Mayall, Geno Washington, what great times! If
any one remembers Gill or myself we would love to hear from you.I
was dragged up in the Meadows and Gill was refined at Clifton
Kind Regards

Ay up me ducks!!
Great reading, this column. I'm from Beeston, Bramcote Hills Grammar
61-66, trained & worked for Plessey around the UK 66-77, joined
Cable & Wireless in 1977 and been overseas with them ever since.
Cyprus, Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi, Sweden, Cayman, Turks & Caicos, Australia,
South Africa & currently Panama. Played rugby for Boots, the county
& 3 counties colts. Used to work at the " 8 'til Late" Stamford
Street, 1968-70 part time, brilliant fun!! We used to go to the
"White Post" to drink late, order pate & toast & you could drink
'til 2am!! "Thanks luv", to you in Bahrain!! "Air Supply" played
here in Panama recently, Graham Russell, who is one of the two guys
who formed the band, is a Nottingham lad, Arnold, we trained together
at Plessey, so we sank quite a few beers whilst he was here!!!.
Great guy, does a lot of work in the States to help threatened species
of wildlife. Also very proud of his native Nottingham. In fact,
he bloody nicked my Notts RFC rugby shirt as it has the Nottingham
Emblem on it!! Now my home is in Central France, when I manage to
get time off, people are great there, very friendly. I also miss
Pork Farms pork pies and their tomato sausage, but not "Shippo's"!!,
In fact I normally visit Pork Farms before going to France, when
I go via the UK!! Anyone who knows me, please drop me a line! Ta
ra, & stay well wherever you are.

I'm a pensioner
and left Nottingham for Thailand four years ago. I now live in Pattaya
where it's lovely and warm all year and sunny most of the time.
I live in a hotel near the beach, swimming pool etc. and nice food.
The cost? 拢210 per month. Try living like that in Nottingham - I
wish I'd left there sooner.

Ey up me duck!
I do miss that. We moved from Nottingham two years ago to move to
Long Island, New York. Even though my husband and I don't originally
come from Nottingham we had all three of our children there and
the two older ones went to Ernehale school in Arnold. I miss everything
about Nottingham. Shopping, fish and chips (including mushy peas),
pork pies, treacle sponge and custard, Notts. Forest, and the good
people. There is nowhere else like Nottingham. If Sharon from Pennsylvania
would like to e-mail me I would be happy to reply. When we first
moved to the US we lived in NJ and I didn't get to see many Brits
either. It feels so much more like home over on the Island and I
can get HP sauce in the supermarket!

H1! Are there
any war brides out there.?? I married a New Zealand airman in 1941.
He had been sent over to England in their depression years in 1932,
but managed to be transferred to the New Zealand Air Force. We spent
3 years together in Ireland, where he helped to prepare a camp for
the first American forces who went to Ireland. He was repatriated
to New Zealand in December 1945 and I left Nottingham with a 3 year
old in 1946. I travelled on th Athlone Castle arriving in Christchurch
New Zealand on ANZAC day (25th April) 1946.

Just found my
way into this web site and think it is terrific. Left Mansfield
in 72 and finished up in Mudgee N.S.W. Please stop writing about
fish and chips and pork pies, I have drooled all over my keyboard.
Just for revenge, potted meat, savoury ducks, cod with oodles of
vinegar and ice-cream from the half way house.
All the best,

Hi every-one,
I want to say thanks a lot to all who e-mailed me the treacle pudding
recipes. Rest assured that I will be making one before our weather
changes into the hot, hazy and humid summers we have here in Canada.
I wonder if my treacle pudding will taste as good as the one my
Mum used to make. Somehow, I don't think so. How many of you ex-pat's
can remember your old Co-op number?? Ours used to be 45702. I remember
going to the Co-op for butter, marg, lard cheese and bacon..in that
order.
Bye for now

for the good old Midlands! Pork Farms pies, Birds cream cakes and
chips 'n' curry sauce! Am actually a Derby lad (don't hold it against

Westernmere Comp' from 1981 -1987 and would love to here from any

Hello there,
My Name is Wendy Pemble, although in Nottingham I would be better
known as Wendy Goucher. I was born in 1962 and was one of the early
arrivals at Chilwell Comprehensive School which I finally left in
1981. I have only moved as far as Scotland, but would still like
to trace anyone who remembers me. I do still return as my parents
still live in Chilwell and I do still have friends there. However
I often wonder what happened to people I remember.

This site has
certainly brought back so many memories, the last dance at Colemans,
decent pork pies, Goose Fair (specially brandy snaps and those dolls
with the huge lace skirts) and meeting mates outside the Council
House (do the lions still roar?). Like Diane, I felt the earthquake
here in Victoria, something I never thought I'd experience and I
hope it was for the first and last time. I was at the Girl's High
until 72, if anyone wants to get in touch please e-mail me. dougandh@home.com

Hi, Just found
this board. What a neat idea. I was born in Beeston (Denison St)in
1933. Finished up school at Beeston Fields in 1948. Worked at Fred
Mitchells garage as an apprentice. Next the Depot then Rolls Royce.
Came to the U.S in 1960, 30 years in Indianapolis, 10 in Lancaster
PA. Retired 4 years ago now live in Lakeland Florida. Came back
last year for 4 weeks and couldn't find my way around but still
loved the pork rinds and Marstons Bitter. My old local was The Commercial
on Wollaton Rd. near the square. My Grandfather was Joe Kirby who
worked for Thomas Danks on Burton St. Any relatives out there? gamoore4@juno.com

I was born in
Nottingham and used to live on Whitemoor Estate and I attended Whitemoor
Junior and Infants Schools. Later we moved to Bells Lane Estate
and I then went to Guilford Girls'School. I left there in 1953 and
worked at Bairnwear on Hucknall Road for two years and then Thos.
Long and Sons, Builders and Joiners Contractors, which was on Nottingham
Road. We left Nottm and immigrated to British Columbia, Canada in
1956. Oh by the way, it is sunny and springlike in B.C., so all
you Ontarians can eat your hearts out!! To Richard Isbell in Spain
I say this. Because us expats read this page and contribute to it,
doesn't mean we want to live back in Nottingham, it just means that
we are still interested in our roots and what's going on etc., also
I think most of us have a soft spot for the old place. I am very
happy living where I do and I am sure I speak for the majority of
people who write on here. Why are you taking a peek at it if you
don't feel that way! My Canadian born husband and I are coming back
for a visit in May and I would love to hear from anyone who remembers
me. Please email me at judithann@cablelan.net. Bye for now. Judith
