Ludwig is a bright, young German who finds himself in rural Devon as a Prisoner of War (POW) while serving as a Gefreiter in the German army in World War One.
His free labour is welcomed by many in the area with large swathes of British men called away by war. Despite worries, and consequent strict rules, about POWs working too closely to newly emboldened local women, Ludwig develops a rapport with .
