"There is no substitute for one-to-one advice from a听top medical expert and that's what we offer our callers and emailers. But for each person who calls to ask for help, someone else phones in to pass on a tip or a suggestion -听it's a great programme to present."

Essential Tremor
We can all get the shakes, particularly when over excited, frightened or stressed and this is perfectly natural.
However, if this involuntary movement is present continuously, even when at rest and perfectly healthy, the condition is known as essential tremor [ET].
It is estimated that between two or three people in every hundred have this condition, which is known to run in families.
It is at best a cosmetic nuisance and at worse disabling in many daily activities.
Specialists do not fully understand the mechanisms of essential tremor.
While there's no known cure, some patients benefit from taking drugs such as beta blockers, while a small amount of alcohol can also help to control the shaking.
However, many people do not seek help from the condition and learn to live with 'the shakes'.
If you want to know about the causes of essential tremor, or need advice about possible treatments, please let us know.
Consultant Neurologist Professor Leslie Findlay, a leading expert in the condition, will be joining Barbara Myers in the studio to answer your questions.
